Handmade Paper and fine art

Society of Hermits is a papermaking and fine art studio in Los Angeles. The studio features a complete papermaking setup with a 7lb Noble and Wood Hollander beater, letterpress capabilities, and bookbinding equipment including a board shear and guillotine.

The studio specializes in editions of fine handmade paper, artist books, and unique fine art. We will work with artists to create unique handmade paper, either in sheet form or purchased as pulp. Our projects are seen as collaborative, and chosen with the intent to develop together with the artist a project that is highly specific. We also are available to teach workshops in the Los Angeles area.

We believe the touch of handmade paper can take a work to a higher, more complete level of finish. Paper connects all of us -- we are so familiar with it. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we strive to create paper that steps outside the mundanity of everyday paper, presenting something that surprises, adds mystery, and captivates the viewer with a distinctively tactile experience.
